Fixed Length or Random Length Wood Flooring?
Real wood flooring options can come with different variants to offer different styles when the floor is laid. One such example is the choice between packs containing fixed length or random length wood flooring. The difference between them is that in a fixed length pack of flooring, all of the floorboards in that pack are the same length. In a random length pack, the floor boards are all random lengths within the ranges of approximately 300mm - 1200mm.
The choice between these two options is purely stylistic. Random length boards would be placed at random to create a staggered looking floor with no uniform pattern, which helps to give a more natural, authentic look to your wood floor.
Fixed length boards on the other hand can be laid as uniform blocks so that they all line up perfectly. This is not a popular option, but some people opt for it. It is worth noting that fixed length boards can also create random, staggered patterns aswell. This can be achieved by cutting each starting plank a different length and laying appropriately, though it will never be as ‘random’ as the random length boards.
